What is a DPF?

Diesel Particulate Filter

A DPF is essentially a filter located in the exhaust, which traps soot that would normally end up in the atmosphere. Once soot builds up the DPF will conduct a burn which is known as a DPF regeneration.

Is your DPF Light on?

Firstly, we carry out a DPF Doctor Industry leading assessment on your vehicle. This is designed to check all components of the vehicle’s emissions system and determine if the DPF is blocked. Your vehicle’s DPF is a self-cleaning filter, a blockage indicates an underlying issue preventing the emissions system from performing a regeneration. If the underlying issue is not resolved the DPF will just block up with carbon and soot leading back to the same fault.

We invest time in training to learn these new modern diagnostic procedures to save our customers time and money and get them back on the road sooner.

A DPF Filter is a self-cleaning filter within the exhaust filter. If it cannot self-clean you may experience vehicle performance issues.

Blocked DPF Symptoms

  • Your DPF warning light is on

  • General performance issues

  • Strange exhaust smell

  • Your vehicle is harder to start

  • Quicker burning of fuel

Can you delete or remove your DPF?

NO!

The deletion or removal of your vehicle’s DPF is illegal. It also voids the manufacturer warranty, Australian Consumer Law protections and may also impact vehicle insurance claims.

When your vehicle is manufactured, it is designed to operate with a DPF system to comply with Australian Design Rules (ADR) regarding emission requirement levels. The applicable ADR for light vehicles is ADR79 and for heavy vehicles is ADR80 which refers to the level of NOx emissions a vehicle can produce.
